Sometimes it can be hard, but we must be strong
I can’t believe that the first months of my university life were ended. It was so fast…I was travelling to the University by bus, driving around the East-European Plain(it is one of the most beautiful places in Russia). I was looking out the window while the bus is passing the beauty of Russian nature. I dreamed about English lectures because they were fantastic. September was very warm to me. The weather was wonderful like a golden treasure of the greatest kings. I was a happy freshman… Blah, blah, blah. It was just the beginning.
Phonetics and Grammer
The first months at the Linguistic University are devoted to tuning the speech apparatus. Some people think that the accent isn’t important in our speech. I know that Globalisation is changing our lives. Of course languages too. But if you hear somebody which is speaking with a Russian accent in English, your ears will die. It’s deadly important to speak with the correct pronunciation. English has some sounds which are absent in Russian. For example [ə]. Is it [э] or [а] in Russian? Maybe is it [ы]? The schwa sound is unique and we need to pronounce it correctly. What do you think about [ð] and [θ]? Yahh… these sounds are the Russian nightmare. “What do you think? [wɔt dəu ju: θɪŋk] Финк? Синк? Капец! I cannot but agree that the responsible attitude to education is the way to success like the fantastic story of Eliza Doolittle from “My Fair Lady” movie. We use mirrors to practice our pronunciation. Sometimes it can be fanny.
Grammar, grammar and grammar… Oh what is it? It is a grammar assignment! Everyday and every night grammar is in my heart. It’s hard but I try to do my best every time. I’m good boy, I am.

— Hello. It’s me again. How are doing?
— Hi, bro. I’m very glad to hear you again. I’m fine, thanks. And what about you?
— I study at the Linguistic University of Nizhny Novgorod. 2 month of my studying have ended. It’s cool because I learned something new about English. I’m happy. I fond of English again and this love is stronger than before.
— Oh, what a surprise! I also study here! But I’ve never seen you before…
— Oh really? I think you should to do to hospital. Your eyes are liars.
— Okey. This situtaion is very strange. I think you are as mad as a hatter. I do not understand anything. But I what to know more about you. You read an English book, don’t you?
—Yes, I do. I’m doing my pleasure reading. The book which I’m reading is “Rebecca”. And it’s my first book in English.
— I’ve chosen “Rebecca” too. Do you stay at home?
2020 is a hard year. COVID19 changed all our plans. It is horrible. Millions of people have been staying at home. The situation in the world continues to scare us. But we must be strong. Try to do it. Their health is our responsibility. My groupmates, friends and I still work at home. Sometimes it can be very boring to look at the computer display. Sometimes it can be very hard to listen to theachers in a comfortable and warm bed. But we always must think about the world problem and we need to stay home together.

In conclusion, I would like to say a few words about my future at my University. A few days ago I did my homework which was based on pronunciation. Three texts were hard to read at the beginning of my studying, but now I can read it more correctly than before. It shows me that there is progress and I need to try to do my best and the result will be better. I’m a happy freshman, I am. I hope that next months will be more interesting I’ve gained a lot of friends. I love them very much. You can read their blogs in Medium too!
